Microsoft yesterday made official with an announcement that a few of us knew was coming or suspected would happen at some point. Microsoft Small Business Server 2011 will be the last version of SBS produced. SBS 2011 Standard and Premium will be available in most channels until June 30, 2013, and through OEM until December 31, 2013.

    Thanks for the shout-out for my blog article – I appreciate it.

    It’s fair to say that while the news of SBS’ retirement came as a shock to many, there’s no shortage of alternatives for those clients who still require an on-site solution – as the blog discusses!

      Yeah, exactly. It will be interesting how the small business market reacts. On the one hand you have the devil you know and on the other you have the much higher investment that small businesses must make towards technology. I am worried that due to the perceived lack of alternatives (there are plenty but the IT professional must be knowledgeable enough to recommend them) small businesses will either curve back on their efforts or attempt other nefarious ways of acquiring the needed software. Interesting times!
